about
I rarely share this song because it doesn’t have that joyous, happy holiday feel. I wrote this song when someone very close to me was in prison. It was a struggle being apart during such an important time of year and the separation felt especially harsh when contrasted with all the cheerful people, movies, music and decorations around me. I survived that Christmas by treating it as just another day.
I know a lot of people are not able to be around their loved ones this year and may feel alone in not enjoying Christmas. This song is for you. Hard times pass. Better days are ahead. Hang tight and stay strong.
lyrics
Christmas is here, look around and see
People carrying arm loads of presents for their families
Houses dressed up in bright flashing lights
Friends all cuddle up by the fire on cold winter nights
Still I’m not feeling happy, I’m not feeling gay
It’s the wrong time of year for you not to be here
‘Cause without you Christmas is just another day
Christmas is just another day
Christmas is here, carolers sing
Kitchen windows fogged by the heat that nice warm ovens bring
Sweet smell of pine
Doors trimmed with wreaths
Mistletoe awaiting the lovers who will stand beneath
Still I’m not feeling happy, I’m not feeling gay
It’s the wrong time of year for you not to be here
‘Cause without you Christmas is just another day
Christmas is just another day
